Without an Evil Eye

Without an Evil Eye shares the life story of co-writer and performer Assaf Ben Shimon, who experienced loss of sight due to a genetic condition and his journey to fulfill his dream of the stage and the theater. Blending theatrical storytelling and stand-up comedy, incorporating visual and musical elements from Ben Shimon’s Moroccan Jewish roots and allusions to Shakespeare, it won the 2022 ASSITEJ Award for Best One-Man Play, a highly prestigious international award for theatre for young people. Ben Shimon skillfully and candidly weaves stories of his efforts to navigate Israeli life as a blind person from an impoverished background, pairing sincerely earned emotion with entertaining anecdotes, including his time serving in the Israeli Army’s unit for individuals with disabilities. Able to poke fun at both himself and society, the audience is left moved and inspired. The play will be presented in Hebrew with English supertitles.
